Luckarack, the 9-year-old gelding who finished fourth at the 4-5 favorite in Saturday's fourth race, may have run his last race.
Trainer and co-owner Mike Pender said Luckarack will become a stable pony eventually. Saturday's loss against $6,250 claimers could hasten the transition.
"I want to make him into my stable pony," Pender said after the race. "If he wants to run again, he will. His racing career is winding down.'
Luckarack has had a remarkable racing career. Bred by Larry and Marianne Williams, Luckrack has won 19 of 70 starts against Thoroughbreds. Earlier this year, he had one win in three starts against Quarter Horses in 870-yard races at Los Alamitos. Luckarack has earned more than $630,000.
Luckarack, co-owned by Dan Dalfiume, won four stakes earlier in his career. He is one of six foals out of Tamarack Bay to earn six-figures.
