Lone Star Park will host a Roses to Ribbons event - designed to match racehorses nearing retirement with new owners - on July 7. Tracy Sheffield will be on the backstretch today, Friday, and on Saturday, to gather entries for the free program, according to a notice from the racing office. Next month's event will be held for two hours in the paddock area, starting at 10 a.m. Central.
Owners or trainers with racehorses approaching retirement can bring those animals to the paddock to parade before potential buyers at that time. The sale of any horse is private, negotiated between the parties. It is recommended the horses be entered in the program in advance of July 7 so the individuals can be promoted to potential buyers planning to attend Roses to Ribbons.
Sheffield can be reached at (512) 395-5314. She said she is willing to coordinate this sort of event for any track.
Roses to Ribbons Old Fashioned Horse Fair, which also includes displays featuring tack, equine artwork and other related items, is put on by the Texas Thoroughbred Association’s Paddock Foundation.
