Cono ($3) won his second start in a maiden race for California-bred 2-year-olds in Friday's fourth race, running five furlongs in 59.70 seconds.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Cono rallied three-wide to win by 2 1-4 lengths over 10-1 Rocky Rogue, who was second in the Turf Paradise Sprint Futurity in Arizona on May 7.
Cono is trained by Mike McCarthy for owners and breeders John and Diane Fradkin, who have an extensive background with the ridgling's family.
They bred the dam, Cashmere, who did not race. Cashmere is out of Ultrafleet, the dam of California Flag, who won 11 of 27 starts and earned $1,288,825; and CAmbiocorsa, who won 9 of 18 starts and $522,055. They excelled in turf sprints.
Cono is by Lucky Pulpit. He was bred in Kentucky, but because he is by a California-based sire he is eligible to run in California-bred races.
