Increased surveillance announced

Woodbine has announced an enhanced surveillance program, in which security will monitor the stalls of certain horses on race day.

According to a release from the thoroughbred racing department, surveillance will began at 5 a.m. on the day of the race, and will continue until the horse reaches the paddock. Logs will be maintained recording the identity of anyone entering the stall, and observations will be noted of anything that's given or applied to the horse. Vets may be asked to provide information on any treatments.

The program will be conducted under the authority of rule 6.34 of Woodbine Entertainment Group's track rules.

Several trainers have posted uncharacteristically high win percentages at the meet, and it will be interesting to see of there's any drop-off through the fall as a result of the program.
