Saturday's eighth race, the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile, will not have show betting.

There are ample betting interests - with a field of seven - but the presence of a heavy favorite on the morning-line Run Away (3) led track officials to scrap show betting.

This is not unprecedented at Los Alamitos. It occurred earlier at this current meeting, which began on Sept. 7. At the year-round nighttime meeting of Quarter Horses and lower-level Thoroughbreds, there have been several times this year when show betting was not offered in a race with a heavy favorite and a large field.
