The favored Mark Casse charge First Premio won the featured second-level optional claimer after an ideal stalking trip under Patrick Husbands. His stablemate, the physically imposing Leavem In Malibu, was cut off along the rail in the stretch and was eventually promoted from fourth to third by disqualification.

First Premio covered a mile and a sixteenth in a snappy 1:43. The Team Valor International runner appears to have stakes potential.
