The babies continue to appear as we move into January, with what appear to be the first foals for Breeders' Cup Mile winner Tourist and multiple Grade 1 winner Brody's Cause being reported by their respective breeders on Twitter.
CJ Thoroughbreds reported the arrival of Tourist's foal, a filly out of the stakes-placed Skip Away mare Blondz Away, on Thursday morning. The mare is the dam of five winners from six starters, led by stakes winner Colonel Samsen and stakes placed Summer Share.
Tourist, who stands along sire Tiznow at WinStar Farm, posted his signature win in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Mile, defeating champion Tepin. In addition to his Breeders’ Cup victory, the $2.1-million earner also won the Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap and placed in five additional Grade 1 races.
WinStar raced homebred Tourist in partnership with Adam Wachtel and Gary Barber, and Don Alberto Corp. also partners in his stud career.
Tim and Nancy Hamlin of Wynnstay LLC announced that their More Than Ready mare Set'n On Ready delivered a Brody's Cause colt. Set'n On Ready, a stakes winner herself, is a half sister to European highweight Lucayan Prince, a Group 3 winner and multiple Grade/Group 1 placed. She is also a half to Grade 2 winner and graded producer Silver Comic, Grade 3 winner Comic Strip, and stakes winner Akiba.
Brody's Cause scored both his Grade 1 victories at Keeneland, taking the Breeders' Futurity as a 2-year-old and the Blue Grass Stakes the following spring. The young Giant's Causeway horse stands at Spendthrift Farm.
