Champion and Blue Grass winner Good Magic was officially credited by Keeneland clockers with a half mile in 48 seconds flat in his penultimate Kentucky Derby work this morning, a move trainer Chad Brown called "outstanding."
Daily Racing Form clocker Donald Harris reported that Good Magic, who worked alone under Walter Melasquez, turned in internal splits of 13.40, 25.80, and 38, and got his five furlongs in 1:01.40.Good Magic vans down the highway to Churchill Downs tomorrow and will have his final Derby work next weekend.
"We're really confident this horse is coming into the race the right way," Brown said. "I'm confident if he continues training as he is now, he'll run the best race of his life. Whether that's good enough remains to be seen, and if he has the racing luck necessary."
