West Coast, second in the Dubai World Cup and Pegasus World Cup in his last two starts, is getting a freshening after returning from Dubai and will have a campaign focused on the late summer, fall, and early part of next year, trainer Bob Baffert said.
West Coast is currently training at Churchill Downs. He was part of a large group Baffert sent there prior to the Kentucky Derby, including Justify. But he has not had a workout since returning from Dubai.
"I'm giving him plenty of time," Baffert said. "I want him super cherry for the fall."
Baffert said major goals for West Coast include the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs, as well as next year's Pegasus at Gulfstream Park. West Coast was third in last year's BC Classic at Del Mar. He was voted the champion 3-year-old male of 2017.
