No, Wesley Ward doesn't win every 2-year-old race at Belmont Park.
Yes and Yes, a son of Sidney's Candy, was guided off the rail by Rajiv Maragh, turning for home and he was able to run down a game Chattel to win this five-furlong maiden turf race for 2-year-olds by a nose at odds of 37-1. It was the first Belmont Park win for trainer Phil Gleaves since Sept. 2003. Gleaves has plied his trade primarily in South Florida since the early 2000s and only recently relocated his stable to New York with about nine 2-year-olds.
Meanwhile, the Ward uncoupled entry of Gins and Tins (5-2) and Odie (3-5) finished fourth and sixth respectively.
Chatttel, a son of Giant Oak trained by Bradnon McFarlane, ran very well at 15-1 in this spot, dueling with Gins and Tins and Herbies Toys through a half-mile in 44.71 before getting nailed on the wire.
Order of finish: 2-3-4-5
