Velvet Mesquite, a multiple stakes winner for Harris Farms, was euthanized on Thursday after complications of colic surgery, the farm announced on Saturday.
Velvet Mesquite underwent surgery for colic, but suffered a severe knee injury when she tried to rise after the operation.
"She will be sadly missed," the farm's statement said.
Velvet Mesquite, 8, won 6 of 22 starts and earned $461,946. She won two stakes at Santa Anita and was second in the Grade 3 Sen. Ken Maddy Stakes in 2015.
Velvet Mesquite delivered a foal by California Chrome in March and had been bred back to Clubhouse Ride. The farm said the California Chrome foal is being raised by a nurse mare.
