Blended Citizen in final tune-up for Belmont Stakes

Blended Citizen, winner of the Grade 3 Peter Pan here three weeks earlier, turned in his final major tune-up for next Saturday's Belmont Stakes working an easy five furlongs in 1:00.88 with jockey Mike Luzzi aboard. Blended Citizen, who wore blinkers and got a bit warm on a muggy, overcast afternoon, posted splits of 12.47, 24.54 and 48.10 then eased up rather abruptly after completing the move, pulling up six furlongs in 1:17.22. The work was a far cry from what was expected, with the connections of Blended Citizen originally stating the son of Proud Citizen was to work a full mile from the six furlong pole. The workout took place approximately 40 minutes before post time before the first race on Saturday's card.
