Mind Your Biscuits blows out in the fog

Mind Your Biscuits blew out down the Belmont Park stretch Tuesday morning in preparation for a start in Saturday’s Grade 1, $1.2 million Metropolitan Handicap.

It was too foggy for clockers to get an official time, though DRF clocker Mike Welsch got Mind Your Biscuits in12.40 secconds from the sixteenth pole to a sixteenth past the finish line.

Chad Summers, the trainer of Mind Your Biscuits, said that was about as much as he could see.

“The rider” Rikki Ramdial “ had a ton of horse and told me to go buy a suit so I guess we’re good,” Summers said afterward.

In the Met, Mind Your Biscuits will be making his first start since he won the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen on March 31 with a remarkable late run that enabled him to get up in in the final strides.

He will be the 122-pound starting highweight under Joel Rosario in the Met Mile, conceding four pounds to the streaking Bee Jersey and eight pounds to the multiple Grade 1 winning 3-year-old Bolt d’Oro.

A field of 11 was expected to be entered later this today when entries are drawn and post positions assigned.

“You’re giving 4 to 8 pounds and you could encounter some traffic trouble with the bigger field,” Summers said. “That part we’re not encouraged about.”

Summers is encouraged about how his horse has bounced back from his trip to Dubai. Summers made the tactical decision to leave the colt in Dubai an extra nine days to help him get over the race before he sent him back to the U.S. Mind Your Biscuits spent a couple of weeks at the Fair Hill training center in Maryland before resuming training at Belmont Park.

He’s had three breezes since May 11.

“He’s acting the right way,” Summers said. “You don’t know til you know, but we don’t have any concerns right now.”

Twelve of Saturday’s 13 races will be drawn early this afternoon with the Belmont Stakes being drawn around 5:30 p.m., the latter race being drawn at Citi Field prior to the Mets-Orioles game tonight.
