The Met Mile field keeps growing.
Limousine Liberal, entered in Friday’s Grade 2, $250,000 True North, was cross-entered Tuesday for Saturday’s Grade 1, $1.2 million Metropolitan Handicap, trainer Ben Colebrook said. That brings the prospective field to 11.
Colebrook said a decision on whether to run in the Met Mile will be made after Tuesday’s post draw, but he sounded as if he was leaning toward running in that race. Javier Castellano will be named to ride as Jose Ortiz, who would have ridden him in the True North, is committed to ride Good Samaritan in the Metropolitan.
Limousine Liberal has raced 21 times, with eight wins and six seconds. He has never raced beyond seven furlongs, the distance of the True North and a distance at which he won the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Handicap the last two years.
“Provided we get a good post I think we would probably run,” Colebrook said. “It’s something we need to try. Obviously, a lot of unknowns _ new racetrack, new distance … unchartered territory for sure. I do think if ever we’re going to do it, we got to do it now to see if he will handle it. Everything to me suggests he has a little more stamina.”
Limousine Liberal was assigned 117 pounds.
Posts for the Met Mile will be drawn later today.
