Supermason, Pacific Typhoon sharp winners Thursday night at Lone Star Park

The best races on Thursday night's card at Lone Star Park were run early, and Supermason and Pacific Typhoon turned in notable efforts in the respective third and fourth races. Also on the program, Peej won his fourth race of the meet in the opener, a $10,000 starter allowance at a mile and an eighth on the grass.

Supermason ($3.40) won his ninth Lone Star race in an optional $40,000 claiming sprint in which he rallied to cover six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10.20. Supermason won by a length and three-quarters over Mr. N in what was his first race since taking the Blue Bonnet Stakes on the opening night card in April at Lone Star. Lindey Wade rode Supermason for Brad Grady and trainer Bret Calhoun. Supermason has won eight of his Lone Star races on dirt, while the other win came on turf. With his win Thursday, he could develop into a candidate for the $50,000 Assault in July at Lone Star.

Pacific Typhoon ($12.80) recpatured his best form in an optional $25,000 claiming turf route in which he covered a mile on firm turf in a blazing 1:32.82. He just missed the course record, according to an annoucement at Lone Star. Pacific Typhoon took quick command Thursday night - up by more than two lengths through an opening quarter in 22.53 seconds. He continued through a  half-mile in 45.83 and six furlongs in 1:09.03 as the comebacking Turbo Street raced in second. Pacific Typhoon finished up a length best over Carouse.

Bryan McNeil rode the winner for Carol Nelson and trainer Veronica Griggs. Pacific Typhoon is an Oklahoma-bred son of Don't Get Mad who last year won four consecutive turf races, starting in an allowance at Lone Star and including the Red Earth and Oklahoma Turf Classic, both at Remington Park. Turbo Street, the winner of last year's Remington Green at a mile and an eighth, finished fifth in what was his first start since December.  This year's Remington Green will be held a month earlier, in August.

Peej ($6) made his first start for the Lone Star Park Racing Club in the opener, and was a neck winner over Special Praise, while it was another three lengths back in third to multiple Grade 2 winner Avanzare. Peej covered the distance in 1:47.87.  Lane Luzzi was aboard for trainer J.R. Caldwell. The Lone Star Park Racing Club is now 2-for-2, with its other win having come earlier this meet with Lodi Street. The new racing club was established by Lone Star to give insight into racehorse ownership, and plans are to start at least one other club next year, according to an official with Lone Star.
