It Justhitthe Wire DQd, Two Dozen Roses elevated to first

It Justhitthe Wire crossed the finish line first by a neck at 16-1, but she was disqualified from first and placed third for coming over on Shanghai Bonnie who in turn bumped with Two Dozen Roses, knocking her into the rail. Two Dozen Roses came back to get second by a neck over Shanghai Bonnie.

The stewards deemed that It Justhitthewire intereferred with Shanghai Bonnie and Two Dozen Roses to the point where a disqualification was necessary.

Two Dozen Roses ($9.40) was elevated to first with Shanghai Bonnie placed second and It Justhitthe Wire third.

Two Dozen Roses is trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez. Pletcher and Velazquez were the beneficiary of another disqualification earlier this meet when Guacamole was impeded by Super Simple in a call that was far more questionable than this one.

The irony with this DQ, which I do agree with for whatever that's worth, is the trainer and rider of It Justhitthe Wire are Kiaran McLaughlin and Junior Alvarado. Back in April, in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial, Vino Rosso, ridden by Velazquez for Pletcher, came over on and bumped with Enticed, ridden by Alvarado for McLaughlin, but after an inquiry and objection no change in the order of finish was made.
