Fly Away Birdie ends 0 for 48 skid at Saratoga for Casse

Fly Away Birdie, loser of three maiden special weight races on turf or synthetic at Woodbione, rallied from well off the pace under Jose Ortiz to take the opener, a maiden $50,000 claiming race for 2-year-olds at six furlongs.

The win was the third of the meet for trainer Mark Casse with his 61st starter. He snapped an 0 for 48 skid dating back to July 22, day 3 of the meet.

Casse, who won Sunday's Grade 2 Del Mar Derby, still has two more runners here today --Toy Moon in the sixth and Dream Maker in the Grade 1 Hopeful.
