Sky Promise overtook Weekend Wizard in the final few yards to win the Grade 3, $150,000 British Columbia Derby by three-quarters of a length. It looked liked Weekend Wizard was home and cooled out turning for home, but Sky Promise closed with a rush to get up just time in the 1 1/8 miles race. He paid $4.70. and posted a fianl time of 1:51.71.

He was ridden by Rico Walcott who collapsed after the race and wasn't able to take part in the celebration in the winner's enclosure.
