Santa Anita race-4 winner Microrithms smoked six furlongs in 1:07.41, winning Thursday’s second-level allowance sprint by three-quarters of a length over pace rival Captain Scotty. The 5-year-olds raced virtually head-and-head though fractions of 21.38 and 43.60 seconds; no late-runner made an impact. Rain has been steady all afternoon.
Microrithms ($6.60) was ridden by Mike Smith; he is trained by Bob Baffert, who starts 3-year-old colt Kingly in a first-level allowance mile that is race 7. Based on the fast times of the first four races Thursday, race 7 should go in 1:35 and change.
(Friday note: Microrithms earned a 97 Beyer.)
