Trainer Robert "Butch" Reid Jr. said Maxiumus Mischief will be sidelined indefinitely after exiting this morning's half-mile work at Gulfstream Park with an undisclosed injury. Maximus Mischief was being eased at the wire by jockey Jose Ortiz after working four furlongs in 49.04.
"He didn't come out of the breeze well," said Reid. "We weren't happy with the way he pulled up and even though he cooled out okay, after going over him with our vet it looks like he's going to need a substantial amount of time off. It's disappointing, but that's the game. With time, hopefully he'll be able to get back to the level we think he can be at."
Maximus Mischief was undefeated in three starts at two, ending the season with a relatively easy win in the Grade 2 Remsen at Aqueduct. But he was a disappointment in his 3-year-old debut when finishing a tiring third as the odds on favorite here last month in the Grade 2 Holy Bull.
