Nolde overcame a poor start to win his second consecutive race in an allowance race with an $80,000 claiming option for 3-year-olds at a mile on turf in Friday's seventh race.
Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Nolde ($4.60) lost his footing for a stride or two at the start, but recovered quickly to race in a stalking position for the first six furlongs. Espinoza guided Nolde outside of pacesetter Contagion (13-1) in early stretch and won by three-quarters of a length in 1:38.10.
Contagion held second, followed by 8-5 Proud Pedro in the field of seven.
Trainer John Shirreffs said Nolde is likely to start in a turf stakes at Del Mar, with the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes on July 17 and the Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap on Aug. 4 as two considerations early in the track's summer meeting.
By Pioneerof the Nile, Nolde won a maiden race in his turf debut on May 3, his fifth start. The colt is owned Jerry Moss.
