The first-time starter Texas Wedge won a $50,000 claming race for 2-year-old maidens in Friday's fourth race at 5 1-2 furlongs by a convincing 6 1-4 lengths, leaving the possibility of a stakes appearance later this season.
Ridden by Evin Roman, Texas Wedge was never far from the lead and took over in early stretch before pulling clear. By Colonel John, Texas Wedge was timed in 1:03.92. Runner-up Candyman Garret, the 3-1 second choice, finsihed 7 1-4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Liska, a 16-1 shot.
Texas Wedge is owned by a partnership after being acquired for $30,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sale of 2-year-olds in-training in Florida in March.
The stewards conducted an inquiry into the start after a bumping incident but did not change the order of finish.
