FRED’STWIRLINCANDY (1) didn’t do much running in his career debut, but he does own the highest last out Beyer Speed Figure (earned sprinting on dirt) in the field and adds Lasix for the first time today. He’s mildly intriguing to me at a big price for a couple of reasons; Twirling Candy’s runners making their first starts on turf are hitting at roughly 17.5% (13-for-74), and visually Fred’stwirlincandy looks to have a rather high leg action – an attribute that can lend itself to turf racing.
Joe Sharp's entrant MORNING STRIDE (9) is another interesting option in this spot. Morning Stride will be the first turf runner from the sire Morning Line, a grade one winner that never tried turf during his racing career. On a positive note, Morning Stride is a half-brother to multiple turf stakes winner Keystoneforvictory.
