Remington Park, which opens its Thoroughbred meet Aug. 25, began receiving horses on its backstrech Monday. Training is expected to begin later this week, but there will be a slight delay from the planned date of Tuesday, according to a press release issued Monday by Remington.
"The track was originally scheduled to open Tuesday, July 25,” said Matt Vance, vice president of operations for Remington, said in a release. “However, due to unforeseen circumstances with the shipping of new material for the composition of the racetrack, there will be a delay of a few days while renovations are completed. Track superintendent Bobby Blackburn and his crew are working their best to have the surface ready for training as soon as possible."
Remington officials are hopeful the renovations will be complete by the end of the week, if not sooner, according to the release. The first trainer to arrive on the backstretch Monday was Kari Craddock, a longtime regular at Remington.
