COAL FRONT (2) has been visually impressive in both starts for trainer Todd Pletcher, and it doesn't hurt that Pletcher is off to a red-hot start on this Saturday card. From a speed figure standpoint, Coal Front is strictly the horse to beat, but he's not the most professional horse in the world and at 4/5 I'm going to take a small stab against him.
SINGING BULLET (1) is much too slow on paper - at this point, anyway - to win the Amsterdam. That being said, he's beautifully bred (by Hard Spun out of the classy mare Life At Ten), and Dale Romans has always handled him like a good horse. His return to the races over a sloppy track at Churchill Downs was nothing more than a paid workout, but his upside intrigues me enough to go with him here. At 11-1 with 10 MTP, I'll play Singing Bullet to win and use him underneath the favorite in an exacta.
