The apprentice phenom Evin Roman had a three-win day on Thursday to take a clear lead in the jockey standings through the 12th day of the 36-day summer meeting.
Roman has won 15 races, four more than Flavien Prat and Rafael Bejarano. Of course, that could change drastically in a matter of days should any of those riders catch a hot streak, but there is no doubt Roman is in the midst of another great season.
He tied for the riding title at the Santa Anita spring-summer meeting at Santa Anita and won the Los Alamitos summer meeting title in July (when several riders took a pass).
Friday, Roman has mounts in seven of the eight races. In four of those races, his mounts are 7-2 or less on the morning-line. A winner or two would be no surprise.
The same can be said of Prat and Bejarano. They have only three mounts each, and all are 7-2 or less on the morning-line.
