Nicarra, a 4-year-old Irish-bred filly by Kodiac, will have her American debut in an optional claimer at a mile on turf in Saturday's fifth race.
Her task has been made easier by the withdrawals of Mai Tai (5) and Peach Cove (7), leaving a field of 10.
Nicarra (4) has one win in seven starts, a minor handicap at a mile and 70 yards on turf at Windsor Racecourse in England last August on good-to-firm ground. Nicarra was later third in a handicap at Sandown Park and a close second as the 7-2 favorite in her final start at Windsor in England last October.
Nicarra was bought at auction for approximately $115,000 in England last fall. Nicarra had her first workout for new trainer Jim Cassidy in January and had gaps in her works at times this year.
With that in mind, she may be better with the experence of a race on Saturday even with the scratches of two key rivals.
