Mai Tai has been retired after she was found to have suffered a tendon injury on Friday, trainer Bob Hess, Jr. said on Saturday.
A 4-year-old filly, Mai Tai was scratched from Saturday's fifth race, where she was the 7-2 morning-line favorite.
"We caught it and talked to the vet," Hess said before Saturday's second race. "It was minor, but we have to take care of the horse.
"That's my third bowed tendon of the meeting."
By Heatseeker, Mai Tai won 2 of 9 starts and earned $140,505 for owner and breeder Bruce Chandler. She will be bred in early 2018, Hess said.
