Los Al: Burgart to stay through 2018

Los Alamitos track announcer Ed Burgart said on Friday that he has postponed his retirement until the end of 2018.

Burgart said last month that he planned to retire next June. Friday, Burgart said he reached an agreement with Los Alamitos track owner Ed Allred to remain in his position until the end of next year.

"He made me a generous offer," Burgart said. "It's worth staying."

Burgart said last month that he will retired to Prescott Valley, Ariz. Burgart, 65, has been involved with Los Alamitos since the late 1970s and has been a track announcer for more than 35 years.

In addition to his role of track announcer, Burgart writes the morning-line, provides program comments on runners and hosts a television show.
