Chicago Style ($3.80) won his third consecutive race in an optional claimer at 1 3-8 miles on turf in Friday's second race, moving closer to a potential stakes appearance.
Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, Chicago Style closed from fifth in a field of six to win by three-quarters of a length over 9-2 Conquest Typhoon, finishing in 2:14.58.
Chicago Style has won 5 of 6 starts for the estate of Glen Hill Farm. Leonard Lavin, who founded the farm, died earlier this month at the age of 97. His grandson, Craig Bernick, is president of Glen Hill Farm.
The 4-year-old Chicago Style, who is trained by Tom Proctor, began his career in claiming races earlier this year, winning a $16,000 claimer for maidens at Tampa Bay Downs in his debut in January before winning a $16,000 claimer for non-winners of two a month later.
He has not raced for a claiming price since.
Chicago Style was Van Dyke's first mount since he suffered a facial injury in a post parade incident Thursday. Van Dyke's mount threw her head back and struck the jockey in the face, causing a cut lip and a bloody nose. Van Dyke did not have any mounts later on Thursday program, and was back on the track on Friday morning working horses at Los Alamitos.
