Unobtainable ($6.40) won Friday's fifth race for 2-year-old Cal-bred maiden claimers, but only after surviving a stretch run involving runner-up Big Bad Gary, a 9-2 shot.

The two runners raced side-by-side in the final furlong, with Unobtainable prevailing by a head. Unobtainable brushed with Big Bad Gary twice but the stewards ruled that the incident did not affect the order of finish.

Respect the Shot, the 9-5 favorite, finished third in the field of nine.

The fifth race was the first leg of a 50-cent late pick four that drew a strong pool of $775,732.
