There are six scratches on the 8-race card that begins at 5:00 p.m. Pacific.
Race 2: (2) Sir Barclay
Race 3: (6) Astartobe
Race 6: (7) Great Promise and (9) Tell Us a Tale
Race 7: 2) Brother Brian
Race 8: (6) My Sweet Sugar
There are two CTHS Sales Stakes for 2-year-olds. The fillies division drew just three horses and goes as the first race with only win wagering.
The colts and geldings division, Race 5, drew 8 horses and appears to be a wide-open event. My pick, (2) Weekend Wizard, is worth taking a shot with if he goes off near his 9-2 morning-line odds.
Race 7, an allowance race for 3-year-olds, features horses that could be running in the Grade 3, $150,000 British Columbia Derby on Sept. 9. I like (4) Driller who is coming off a third-place finish in the $50,000 Sir Winston Churchill Derby Trial where he moved too early into a fast pace. With a patient ride he could turn the tables on (7) Hunters Appeal who came from well back to pull off a huge upset at 36-1.
It is a beautiful afternoon in Vancouver with a current temperature of 74 degrees Fahrenheit.
The track is fast.
