Delta Downs in Vinton, La., and Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, which are located about two hours apart, will both be closed for simulcasting on Monday due to extreme weather conditions in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Delta also announced it will be closed for simulcasting on Tuesday.
There is no current live meet at either venue.
Hurricane Harvey hit the South Texas town of Rockport, located north of Corpus Christi, late Friday night. The storm system has since dropped large amounts of rainfall throughout the coastal region, with flooding ongoing in Houston.
An official with Sam Houston said Saturday night that the track had fared well to that point, and simulcasting operations were continuing into the night. The track closed for simulcasting on Sunday.
Retama Park near San Antonio had closed for simulcasting on Saturday as a precaution. The track is a few hours inland from Corpus Christi. Retama opens a Thoroughbred meet on Sept. 1.
