The bet requires the selection of a horse to finish first or second in 10 races on Saturday's card. The bet typically requires finding a placed horse in all the races, but sometimes there is a payout for tickets with nine placed horses on a 10-race program.

The bet does not have a carryover provision. The pool is typically $25,000 to $40,000 depending on the day of the week.

This could be a good day to give it a try. With large fields, a winning ticket is likely to be worth four figures.

Del Mar is the only Thoroughbred track to offer the bet in Southern California. Sadly, Santa Anita did away with the place pick all a few years ago. Los Alamitos offers the bet on its night mixed programs, but not during its daytime Thoroughbred meetings.
