Del Mar: 3 imports run in Juvenile Fillies Turf

The $100,000 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf has a full field of local runners, a few shippers from Gulfstream Park and three runners who made their last starts in England and Ireland.

Camino Song (7), Klosters (8) and Navajo Dreamer (13) will have their first starts in the United States.

Camino Song is a maiden who recently joined trainer Phil D'Amato's stable. The filly was fourth, beaten three lengths, in a maiden race at seven furlongs on soft turf at Gowran Park in Ireland on July 22 in her only previous race, at 33-1.

Ball Girl, who was second as the 11-10 favorite, has run well since then, winning a maiden race and finishing third in the Group 3 Round Tower Stakes at The Curragh on Aug. 27.

Camino Song has arguably the most upside of the three imports.

Klosters was third in her debut on the all-weather track at Kempton Park on May 24 and won an allowance race on good-to-firm turf at Chepstow Racecourse on June 17. The Chepstow race was run at six furlongs, but it is worth noting that the track has an uphill finish, suggesting the one-mile distance here won't be an issue for Klosters.

Klosters did not beat much at Chepstow. Of her seven rivals that day, six have run back and only one has won.

Navajo Dreamer has the most experience of the imports, having run five times without a win. She was second in a maiden race at Limerick, Ireland on June 23 and second in a handicap at The Curragh on July 16 in her two most recent starts. Golden Spell, who won the July 16 race, has since made three starts, and was fourth and fifth in two group stakes.
