The veteran gelding Luckarack won his first Thoroughbred race of 2017 in Friday's first race in a five-furlong dash for $6,250 claimers.
Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Luckarack ($5.20) closed from fourth in a field of six to catch 9-2 Bound fo Heaven in the stretch. Trained by Mike Pender, Luckarack won an 870-yard race against Quarter Horses in June and was fourth in an optional claimer here on July 7 and in an allowance race at 87 yards on Aug. 4.
Luckrack has won 20 times, 19 times against Thoroughbreds.
