Saturday's $75,000 Beverly Lewis Stakes for 3-year-old-fillies has six runners, but the track has opted for no show betting in the six-furlong race.
The presence of Faypien (3) was the difference. Los Alamitos frequently does not have show betting when there are heavy favorites in Quarter Horse races at the track's night meeting. Last Sunday, for example, there was no show betting in the Go Man Go Handicap, which was won by the heavily favored Heza Dasha Fire.
With no show betting, the track limits exposure to massive show bets that can lead to minus pools, and a financial obligation to the racetrack - or the simulcast locations that takes the bet.
Faypien, who was second in the Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga last month, is the 4-5 favorite on the morning-line for the Lewis Stakes.
