RACE 7
MISS TEMPLE CITY (5) is the best horse in the race on her best day, but her form in 2017 has been dreadful. At a short price, I’m leaving her off my ticket entirely; if she wins, I lose. LINDA (2) has run well over the Kentucky Downs turf in the past, and while her 2017 form has been far from stellar, she’s at least entering this race in better shape than Miss Temple City (even if she feels like the wiseguy horse here). If ZIPESSA (4) remembers what she once was, she’s plenty capable of winning this race.
RACE 8
MISSISSIPPI DELTA (1) won this race last year, and her ability to sit and pounce could be the difference maker here. LULL (5) has had success over the Kentucky Downs turf before, and she’s shown an ability to sit just off the pace, as well. The longer distance races haven’t worked to her advantage, and it’s possible (and likely) that she’s been a sprinter all along. FAIR POINT (2) is rock-solid for Shug McGaughey and she looms as a logical entrant here.
RACE 9
WYETH (6) seems dirtied up on paper, as he’s been on dirt in his most recent races. A confirmed turfer, this Amoss trainee should relish the return to the green and could offer significant value in multi-race wagers should he connect. HOGY (10) is the definition of a professional racehorse, and I’m expecting one of his best tries in his first start for trainer Mike Maker. COMMEND (1) is another dangerous runner in this spot, and his best is plenty capable of taking top honors today.
RACE 10
I’ve chased BULLARDS ALLEY (8) in each of his two most recent starts, and I think he’s in better form than the PPs would suggest. He was in solid position in the American St. Leger most recently before being eliminated moving down the backstretch; draw a line through that effort and you’re left with a horse in solid form that’s also run well at Kentucky Downs in the past. POSTULATION (1) has improved with additional distance and must be respected as a contender.
2,4 / 1,2,5 / 1,6,10 / 1,8 = $18 for $0.50
