He Will had a rough-luck De Mar.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, He Will was second by a head in the California Dreamin' Stakes at 1 1-16 miles on turf on July 29 and was eighth in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap after a wide trip.
Saturday, He Will (5) will start in the $75,000 E.B. Johnston Stakes for California-bred milers at Los Alamitos. Rafael Bejarano will have the mount on the 5-year-old horse for the first time since a fourth in the California Cup Turf Classic at Santa Anita in January.
This will be He Will's first start on dirt since a fourth in the Thor's Echo Stakes for California-breds at six furlongs at Santa Anita on June 11. This race will be a better fit for He Will, a danger from off the pace.
The race is led by Gold Rush Dancer (3), who won the Grade 3 Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs last month.
