The favored Spirit of Caledon became the third runner from this year's Queen's Plate to win a race when he took the co-featured OS allowance/$40K claimer. Daily Brew gave him a run for his money while ending up a close second in the nine-furlong Tapeta tilt.
The 6-1 outsider Lady Brie prevailed in a blanket finish in the other nominal headliner, in which the favored front-runner Most Inspiring weakened to fourth going a mile and a sixteenth on the grass.
The popular 10yo Gentleman Jackson gamely won his 19th race in a seven-furlong starter allowance. The 11yo Tevez finished fourth in a bid to win his 19th race in a five-furlong bottom-level dash.
The Tapeta played relatively fair, and closers fared well in the three turf races, which were run in lane 5. The rail comes down for tomorrow's Woodbine Mile Card, when the entire course will be utilized.
