Gorgeous day for 32nd Maryland Million

Laurel_park_sat._10-21-2017

It's a gorgeous fall day at Laurel Park for the 32nd running of the Maryland Million. Temperatures will be in the mid-70's with blue skies and low humidity.

There are some notable scratches on the card:

** Nicaradalic Rocks, winner of the Maryland Million Sprint a year ago, has been declared from both the Sprint and the Classic.

** Todd Pletcher scratched Jerandson from the Turf and will run both him and Bonus Points in the Classic. Nik Juarez, who was named on both horses, stays on Bonus Points. John Bisono picks up the mount on Jerandson.

** Barrel of Dreams, who may have gone favored in the Ladies for Charlton Baker, is scratched and will instead run in the Ticonderoga at Belmont Park.

The Nursery and the Lassie, which are both for 2-year-olds, are two of the better races on the card.

Jamaican Don is the horse to beat in the Nursery but Onemoregreattime is well drawn on the outside and should give him a good battle.

Limited View should be a handful in the Lassie. She has looked very good winning her two starts at Laurel and can certainly be forgiven for her sixth-place finish in the Grade 2 Adirondack.

Margie's Money could complete a cold  exacta, but Pikachu Princess gets blinkers today and should not be underestimated.

Admirals War Chest comes back on 13 days' rest in the Classic after making his 2017 debut and faces a difficult assignment as he tries to win the race for the third year in a row.

The race should Come down to John Jones and Bonus Points. I lean to John Jones, who had a very nice prep for this race in a Belmont Park turf sprint Oct. 5. Like, Admirals War Chest, that was his first start of the year.
