Jockey Feargal Lynch more than earned his mount fee in the sixth race at Laurel Park on Friday.
Lynch, aboard 1-10 favorite Tricks to Doo in the six-furlong maiden race for 2-year-olds, had his left rein break soon after the start. Lynch, grabbed a handful of mane to steer Tricks to Doo, and went on to win by 5 3/4 lengths.
After the finish, Tricks to Doo was not interested in going left around the turn while galloping out and instead went straight. Lynch bailed off just before Tricks to Doo hung a right and broke through the outer rail and into the Laurel paddock, which is located near the clubhouse turn.
Lynch got to his feet after the incident and will ride in race 8. According to the Equibase chart, Tricks to Doo was "apprehended shortly thereafter, examined and walked" back to his barn.
