Pink Lloyd stamped himself as the leading Canadian Horse of the Year candidate by winning his seventh consecutive Woodbine stakes, all under Eurico Da Silva. The win gave Da Silva his 31st stakes victory of the year, which leaves him just five wins shy of the meet record.
Melmich, who's also unbeaten this year, is another Horse of the Year candidate, along with Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint entrant Ami's Mesa. A Breeders' Cup win by the juvenile fillies Wonder Gadot or Dixie Moon might trump anything done locally this year by the other Horse of the Year contenders.
Clickety Clack gamely nosed out the favored Avie's Mineshaft at 10-1 in a seemingly light edition of the $225K Princess Elizabeth Stakes. The daughter of leading Ontario 2yo sire Silent Name, who covered a mile and a sixteenth in 1:46.07, could run back in the $125K South Ocean Stakes for OS fillies Nov. 15.
Rafael Hernandez found the mark on Clickity Clack and Red Fever. Jerome Lermyte and Patrick Husbands also doubled up.
Husband scored on the unbeaten 2yo Verboten, who captured a one-mile allowance over yielding turf with owner Josephine Abercrombie in attendance.
The handle was a solid $4.6 million.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover heading into Wednesday is $30K.
