The pick six with a two day carryover was hit yesterday, so we are back to zero for the Thursday card. Four turf races on the card - two sprints and two routes.
The most interesting of the turf races is the 6th, a one-mile route for 2-year-olds.
For more info on the field, Dan Illman and Matt Bernier previewed this race for the DRF Bets Race of the Day here.
I prefer The Presidency, stretching out for Jimmy Jerkens following a sprint debut. Jerkens is excellent stretching horses out in distance, and this horse is bred to appreciate the added ground as a full brother to Declaration of War and War Correspondent, among others. His dam is a half-sister to Belmont winner Union Rags.
Witch Doctor is a slight favorite on the ML based on his effort two starts back where he earned a Beyer of 80 routing on turf. He did not come close to backing that race up last time, though he was in against the very impressive Analyze It.
The featured 8th is a turf sprint for older fillies and mares, and I only want two horses in this race. Either Truth in the Lies continues her improvement for Jason Servis and handles the turn back to sprint (she has proven effective over shorter distances in the past), or the class-dropping Carolina Shag proves to be too good for these horses. I sided with the latter, but am using both.
Earlier in the day (Race 3) Switzerland and Tommy T will try once again to break out of the maiden ranks. They are fastest on the way in, though they have also both disappointed over time, Tommy T in particular in his last start where he was flat as a heavy favorite.
The only real alternative may be the Clement firster Teak. There is a lot of turf in Teak's pedigree, but his dam was a good dirt sprinter in her career, winning 3 of her 5 starts, including her debut, and Clement is an excellent first-out trainer.
First post coming up at 12:20. Scratches and changes are here.
