Luis Saez rode six winners at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday, one shy of the track record of seven set by Jerry Bailey in 1995 and equaled earlier this season by Tyler Gaffalione.
Saez, who won the 2016-17 riding championship at the Gulfstream Park championship meet with 102 victories, got off to good start scoring aboard Adios Little Ed ($5.20) in Wednesday's opener. His big day continued with back to back winners in the third and fourth races aboard Life Time Citizen ($13.20) and Classic Rock ($5), Benefactor ($4.40) in the sixth and Devilish Romance ($8.40) in the ninth, before concluding with Nonsuch ($7.60) in the finale. Saez has now ridden 23 winners over the first 13 days of the current session. Gaffalione is second in the standings with nine victories.
Wednesday's feat marked the third time Saez has won six races on a single card, having previously done so at Calder Racecourse in 2009 and again in 2012.
We keep working so hard every day. Thank God the trainers and the owners give me the opportunity to ride their horses,” Saez said.
