Santa Anita Sunday preview ...
Race 1 – The Super High Five carryover is $8,649; new money should exceed $35,000. Late-runner El Tovar (8) and front-runner Fly to Mars (3) are the principals in this N1X sprint. Looks like enough speed to set it up for El Tovar, listed at a generous 9-2.
Race 3 – Incensed (6) improved since three subpar efforts on the hill last spring; he might deserve another chance at 9-2 for a productive trainer-jockey combo. Peter Miller and Evin Roman are 28-for-92 ($3.01 ROI) the past year. Miller-trained Tristan’s Trilogy (10) has won on the hill. When Miller starts two in a turf sprint, both usually are “live.”
Race 4 – Second-time starter Chatty Carole (12) is a live longshot based on a DRF Formulator trainer angle. Hector Palma is 5-for-16 with second-start maidens since fall 2016. Chatty Carole meets a soft bunch in this maiden-20 sprint. She is listed at 8-1.
Race 5 – Judicial (1) is one of the better gambles on the card. Her third-place debut at Emerald Downs (Sept. 17, race 5). was better than it looks on paper. The replay is worth watching. Judicial makes her local debut for trainer Mark Glatt, whose horses are firing. Judicial has speed, and can wire this Cal-bred maiden juvenile filly sprint. She is listed at 5-1, and worth backing at that price.
First post Sunday is 12:30. Happy New Year!
