Ronald R (8) will have his American debut in allowance race with a $62,500 claiming option in Saturday's ninth race on the hillside turf course with several intriguing elements in his favor.
Ronald R is racing as a first-time gelding and is trained by Simon Callaghan, who does well with European imports.
Ronald R was second in the 29-runner Britannia Stakes at a mile on turf, the leading handicap for 3-year-olds at Royal Ascot last June. After finishing a disappointing sixth in the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes for 3-year-olds at Newmarket last July, Ronald R was 14th as the 6-1 favorite in the $108,800 Clipper Logistics Handicap at York on good-to-soft ground last August in his final start in the UK.
Ronald R was racing on the worst ground of his career at York and did not perform to expectations, fading with three furlongs remaining in the one-mile race. He was the only 3-year-old in a field of 17.
For Saturday's ninth race, Ronald R will be ridden by Flavien Prat at a distance that should suit. Ronald R won a maiden race at seven furlongs at Yarmouth in 2016 and was a game third in an allowance race at Newbury in his preceding start.
Ronald R is a gelding to strongly consider in many bets, notably the late pick four and pick five.
