The card Thursday at Oaklawn features a handful of promising 3-year-olds, including Transgress, who makes his two-turn debut in a first-level allowance, and Song of Mine, a half-sister to champion Songbird ($4.6 million) who launches her career. It is an overcast day with temperatures approaching 50 degrees. The track is fast.

Song of Mine (2) is up first, in the seventh, a maiden special weight for 3-year-old fillies at a mile. The race ends at the sixteenth pole, as with all races at the distance at Oaklawn. She faces a tall task against such experienced rivals as Eskimo Kisses (5) and La Fee Verte (6). Song of Mine is a Ghostzapper and she was an $800,000 yearling purchase.
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas has considered Transgress (4) one of the more promising young horses in his stable, and the horse will attempt to parlay a flashy maiden sprint win into two-turn success. For more from Lukas on Transgress: http://www.drf.com/news/transgress-tries-two-turns-allowance
