A minority interest in top Derby prospect Catholic Boy has been purchased by Sol Kumin's Madaket Stable from majority owner Robert LaPenta

Sol Kumin's Madaket Stable has bought a small share in the top Kentucky Derby prospect Catholic Boy, who is scheduled to make his 3-year-old debut on Saturday in the Sam Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

Catholic Boy, winner of the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes in his dirt debut in his final start at age 2, had been owned solely by Robert LaPenta. According to both Jonathan Thomas, who trains Catholic Boy, and John Panagot, the racing manager for LaPenta, Madaket recently bought into the colt.

"Bob's the majority owner, but Sol bought in for a piece," said Panagot, who said Catholic Boy will continue to race in LaPenta's silks.

Catholic Boy, by More Than Ready, won three times in four starts last year. He was fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf in his lone loss. He won two stakes. In addition to the Remsen, he won the Grade 3 With Anticipation on the turf.
