Prepping for the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen on March 31, X Y JET seized command right out of the starting gate en route to an easy score of about 6 lengths today in the Pelican Stakes (R8) at Tampa. The gray 6yo gelding finished 6 furlongs in 1:09.71, just .03 off the Pelican record, over the fast going, even when geared down the last 70 yards or so by jockey Emisael Jaramillo.
Jaguar Poz was second, followed by Divine Ambition and Flashy Kyem, with the full results being 4-6-3-2. A field of 7 older horses went postward.
Jorge Navarro, who had 12 starters today at Gulfstream, was on hand at Tampa to saddle his stable star. X Y Jet is owned by Rockingham Ranch and Gelfenstein Farm.
We'll have more detail in the race recap on www.drf.com before too long.
